NOVABARCA S.A., one of Uruguay’s largest producers of frozen fish, has been active since its acquisition of a processing plant in 1993. Located in Canelones on a 30.000-m2 site with a built area of 10.000 m2 it has an easy access to Uruguay’s main port of Montevideo and to the International Airport.

NOVABARCA´s facilities have been completely refurbished since acquisition, and have a processing capacity of 90 metric tons per day, offering three types of frozen products: whole fish, H&G and fillets, reaching an annually production of 10.000 metric tons.

NOVABARCA has fresh-catch storage facilities for 250 metric tons at 0 degrees (C), cold storage facilities for 1.000 metric tons of processed products, and an ice-making capacity of 20 metric tons per day. In order to maintain the highest standards of health and freshness, NOVABARCA

 

employs the state-of-the-art conservation method: hyper freezing. With this technique, food is flash-frozen at –40ºc, thus avoiding the formation of ice crystals and the breaking of cells fully preserving texture, nutrition and flavour.

NOVABARCA operates its own fleet of 8 steel trawlers in the cold, unpolluted waters of the Southwest Atlantic Ocean.

The demanding standards of quality start form the moment the fish is captured and immediately cool in ice, and then continue when it is processed in our plant with technology in constant evolution, which enables us to count with the authorization without restrictions to sell our products to the European Union and have a production in compliance with the FDA´s HACCP regulations.
